Heritage RoadTrip Overview
The Greater Pittsburgh Council is embarking on a RoadTrip this year in preparation for Summer Camping at Heritage in 2007. This unique marketing campaign is called “Heritage RoadTrip ‘07” and is geared towards youth members, units and districts to help promote the amazing outdoor opportunities at Heritage Reservation.
The RoadTrip map is the keystone of this campaign. The idea is to get your HR vehicle from Pittsburgh to Heritage over the course of the Winter and Spring. As a unit, you should display this map at meetings and have an HR vehicle for each youth member. As the youth sign up for camp, their vehicle should move from Pittsburgh to Heritage. Additionally, all youth members will be mailed a similar map in January. They will be asked to track their camp savings plan for a chance to win a gift certificate to the trading post. You may also see similar maps at district roundtables, tracking the percentage of youth signed up in each unit across the district.
There are two additional recognitions for your unit. If you are signed up for camp, or when you sign up for camp, you are eligible to ‘sign the sign’ at a district roundtable. Signs from all 11 districts within the Greater Pittsburgh Council will then be displayed at the entrance to camp to show unit support of Heritage’s programs. Secondly, you will find a Trip Tik-et in the Support Section below. If you complete this Trip Tik-et, you will be eligible to receive an additional free leader at camp on top of those you earn for bringing various ratios of Scouts to camp.
We have constructed 54 actual road signs like you see to the right. These promotional materials are available at our council office for your use at meetings, camporees, pinewood derbys and kick-offs. You can reserve them by filling out the form below, or by calling 412.325.7921. Also, to support your promotion efforts and administration of this RoadTrip we have generated CD-ROMs with promotional materials and forms. Unit kits and CD-ROMs have been distributed at December RoundTables.

Promote and participate in the council’s popcorn sale. This is a great way to underwrite camp fee. |

Recruit your 2007 unit camping chairman. |

Attend the 2007 unit camp promotion training at Flag Plaza. |

Schedule a unit camp promotion night with your district promotion chairman for February or March. |

Attend your district camp promotion kick-off during Roundtable week. |

Attend your unit committee meeting. Work with them to set camp promotion plan and set attendance goal for the unit. |

Post unit Heritage Road Trip ‘07 sign up chart at each unit meeting and track sign-ups. |

Promote Heritage camp staff opportunities to your older Scouts. Encourage them to complete and submit a 2007 staff application to Flag Plaza. |

Heritage Road Trip ’07 travel itineraries mailed to units. |

Have a special Heritage Road Trip ‘07 promotion to Webelos entering into Boy Scout Troops. |

Set aside a unit meeting for camp promotion presentation and camp sign-ups. Invite parents and again make sure new Webelos are in attendance and explain incentive plan and promotional material. |

Have Scouts get early bird fees ready for April 1. |

Early bird fee due to Flag Plaza with full name and unit roster. |

Attend Heritage Road Trip ‘07 unit leaders meeting. |
